RIYADH — Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, chairman of Kingdom Holding Company (KHC), visited Port Moresby, capital of Papua New Guinea, on Aug. 25 in an official visit to the country. He was received by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Paul Tiensten, and a number of government and high-ranking officials. He was briefed about the country’s tourism sector. In his meeting with Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare, bilateral relations between Saudi Arabia and Papua New Guinea, as well as investment opportunities in the latter were discussed.
Kingdom Bans Cows From Surrey
JEDDAH, 28 August 2007 — Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Agriculture yesterday imposed a temporary ban on the import of cow, gazelle and sheep from Surrey in the UK following the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in the province, the Saudi Press Agency said.
Jordan’s King Accepts Resignation of Fariz
AMMAN, 28 August 2007 — Jordan’s King Abdallah yesterday issued a decree accepting the resignation of Finance Minister Ziyad Fariz, according to a royal court statement. Fariz, who doubles as deputy premier, tendered his resignation to Prime Minister Marouf Bakhit on Tuesday after the two men differed publicly on the need to raise fuel prices. Fariz, a US-educated economist, insisted on an immediate hike of fuel prices to cope with soaring crude prices on the world market and avert the treasury fresh burdens. (Abdul Jalil Mustafa)
