JEDDAH, 31 August 2007 — A man, in his 30s, stabbed a friend to death in a drunken frenzy in the early hours of Wednesday morning in the Al-Faihaa District of Jeddah.

The two men worked as security guards at a popular hotel on Jeddah’s Corniche.

According to police both men, who were in an apartment close to the Kilo 3 area, had spent the night drinking and were intoxicated.

“After killing his friend, the killer panicked and telephoned the police to report what he had done. Police quickly moved in and cordoned the area off to ensure the man did not abscond,” said a police spokesman.

Police arrested the man and seized the murder weapon and bottles of alcohol with the men’s fingerprints on them. “A forensic team found that the victim had been repeatedly stabbed.” a police spokesman said.

“There were wounds to his hands. It seems he was trying to defend himself from the killer. The murderer was taken to hospital. He had also suffered bruises from a stick that the victim had used to hit him with,” the spokesman added.

The murderer has confessed to the crime and will stand trial.
