JEDDAH, 31 August 2007 — King Abdallah of Jordan will arrive in Jeddah tomorrow. King Abdallah will meet Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah to discuss regional and international issues besides exploring the ways to strengthen mutual relations between the two countries, Saudi Press Agency reported yesterday.

Makkah Governor Meets US Diplomat

JEDDAH, 31 August 2007 — US Consul General Tatiana C. Gfoeller updated Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal on the preparations for an upcoming US cultural and commercial exhibition to be held in Abha in November at a meeting at the governor’s office in Jeddah on Wednesday. The multiday expo is aimed at highlighting America’s artistic, educational and commercial ties to the Kingdom. It is also expected to include events for businessmen and women, students and families. The Saudi-US cooperation with special focus on the Kingdom’s Western Region featured high in the talks between Prince Khaled and the consul general. The prince commended the ongoing US-Saudi educational and cultural exchange programs.

Three Arrested Inside Girls School

YANBU, 31 August 2007 — Police arrested three expatriates found inside a girls school in Al-Bandar district here on Wednesday. Responding to reports from locals, police arrested three men of unannounced Asian nationality on suspicion that they were breaking in to rob the middle school. The suspects claimed they were completing a contracting job, but police were skeptical because they didn’t have any tools with them. (Muhammad Al-Homaid)

European Charged With Drunk Driving

YANBU, 31 August 2007 — Police here arrested a man of unreported European nationality for drunk driving on Wednesday. Responding to reports of a car swerving on the road and driving over sidewalks, police pulled the vehicle over on Yanbu’s Al-Hanan St. and arrested the driver, who they said was highly intoxicated. The man works for a large oil company, police said, without elaborating. (Muhammad Al-Homaid)

Course to Teach Blind Children

JEDDAH, 31 August 2007 — Ebsar Foundation for Rehabilitation and Vision Impairment Services will offer a five-day course for children aged between six to 12 with vision impairment to develop their daily skills from Sept. 1 to 5. Special Education teacher Suzan Atta will lecture the course, which will be held at the society headquarters from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The course aims at improving children’s skills and abilities to take care of their personal hygiene, wearing clothes, and eating. Suspected Forger Arrested Drunk

JEDDAH, 31 August 2007 — Police in Jeddah arrested a suspect they said was forging work visas (iqamas) and other documents, including Saudi passports. Police received tips from local residents about the man’s suspicious activity inside his house. Police stormed into the house after days of monitoring to find the man drunk. Police are still questioning the forger. (Ali Al-Amri)
