RIYADH, 31 August 2007 — More than 100 expatriates from the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu donated blood voluntarily at the King Fahd Medical City here during the weekend. The campaign was organized by TNTJ , a group of Tamil-speaking youths whose aim is to serve the people in whatever possible means.
The voluntary donors included mothers from Tamil Nadu whose husbands are working in the Kingdom. The first to donate the blood was a new convert to Islam who told Arab News that he was happy that this service would help the locals as well as expatriates toward maintaining health care in the Kingdom.
“We got an overwhelming response from our community members,” Musafir Rahman, who works as a marketing manager in private establishment here, told Arab News yesterday. Rahman, the leader of the group, added that the TNTJ first carried out a similar program at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital on July 12 where nearly 50 donors came forward to donate their blood.
“We were motivated by the maiden response from our community members and we carried out a similar program at KAMC which drew an unprecedented response.” He hopes that the campaign will be continued during the coming months when people return to the Kingdom following their summer vacation.
