JEDDAH, 5 September 2007 — The Abhur Tourism Festival, which will be held for the first time this year during Eid Al-Fitr holidays, is expected to attract more than a million tourists and holidaymakers from Saudi cities and neighboring Gulf states, according to Prince Abdullah ibn Saud, chairman of the festival’s executive committee.
Speaking to reporters after signing the agreements yesterday at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry for the organization of various programs during the festival, he said the activities would include an international boat race and a Formula car race.
Prince Abdullah said well-known international Formula car racing champions would take part in the car race.
He hoped that the festival would encourage businessmen to carry out more investment projects in the tourism sector in Abhur.
“More efforts should be made to exploit tourism facilities and potentials in the Kingdom,” the prince said.
He emphasized the need for organizing a variety of tourist programs throughout the year in addition to summer tourism festival.
