MANAMA, 27 September 2007 — Mena Telecom, a subsidiary of Kuwait Finance House Bahrain (KFHB), which has implemented $50 million to $70 million projects, is keen to apply for the third mobile license in Bahrain, a top official said yesterday. Abdulhakeem Al-Khayyat, chairman of Mena Telecom and general manager of KFHB, said that Mena Telecom would be looking at various opportunities in the international arena after consolidating the business base in Bahrain. “We are definitely keen to apply for the third mobile license in Bahrain as part of our strategy to enhance the business base of the company.” Al-Khayyat, who opened the third retail branch at Country Mall Budaiya Highway, said that the WiMax would cover the entire Bahrain by May next year.

DUBAI — Dubai World Trade Center, organizer of the region’s premier exhibition for jewelry and precious timepieces, Watch & Jewelry Dubai, has unveiled the new format for 2007 with the introduction of “Dubai International Jewelry Week.” Taking place on Dec. 11-15, 2007, the Dubai International Jewelry Week would demonstrate international interest in the Middle East’s jewelry landscape with three distinct shows — Areeq Dubai, Jewelry Collections Dubai and Jewelry Trade Dubai. The three new events will provide focused forums for traders, consumers and some 400 exhibitors from over 20 countries. Helal Saeed Al-Marri, director general of DWTC, said in a statement on Tuesday that “the jewelry market has grown tremendously over the past few years in tandem with the growing affluence in the region.
DME Trading Tops 100,000 Contracts

DUBAI — The Dubai Mercantile Exchange Limited (DME) on Tuesday said a record 100,000 contracts, with a value of approximately $5.25 billion, have been traded on the exchange in less than four months since its launch on June 1, 2007. Trading on the DME has averaged 1,863 contracts per day.
