RIYADH, 29 September 2007 — As part of efforts to integrate orphans into mainstream society, the Charitable Society for the Care of Orphans (Insan) has announced plans to build two major facilities.
The total cost of the two projects, which include a special social club for orphans in Al-Kharj and a central Insan office building in Riyadh, will exceed SR69 million.
“The funds for the construction of the proposed social club for orphans in Al-Kharj have been donated by a well-known Saudi businessman and philanthropist Fawaz Al-Hokair,” said Insan spokesperson Essam Askar.
The project, to be completed within the next two years, will cater to the social needs of orphans of the central region by providing them a platform for interaction, entertainment and rehabilitation.
“Another big building is coming up on the capital city’s main King Fahd Road, which will house the offices of Insan,” said the spokesman, adding that this project will be completed within nine months.
“The society provides moral and material support to orphans in order to help them stand on their feet.”
The charity, which has six branches, has also found jobs for over 500 orphans of both sexes after providing them training.
“We have also been paying SR200 to every orphan on a monthly basis besides taking care of his or her educational and medical needs,” said Askar, adding that the orphans are supported while they live with their relatives.
Insan, he said, also coordinates with public and private sectors on behalf of the orphans. Prince Faisal bin Salman, who is the chairman of the Insan’s resource development committee, recently announced an endowment fund solely for the charity.
