World’s Unique Mosques Feature at Sharjah Show

SHARJAH, 3 October 2007 — Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammad Al-Qasimi, Supreme Council member and ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated a photography exhibition titled “Mosques Around the World” at Qanat Al-Qasba in Sharjah recently.

The exhibition that portrays over 150 photographs of the beautiful and unique mosques around the world will continue until Monday at the Maraya Al-Qanat Gallery Hall.

Organized by the Awqaf General Trust as part of the Islamic Art Festival in association with the Department of Culture and Information in Sharjah, this is the first time such an exhibition, which brings over 150 photographs of mosques from more than 48 countries, has been open to the public.

Visitors are allowed from 8.30 p.m. to 12.30.a.m.

The photographs featuring mosques from different cultures, such as Russia, Pakistan, India, Sweden and Turkey, speak volumes of history and culture and showcase architectural designs highlighting the spread of Islam across the world.

Meanwhile, Qanat Al-Qasba hosted over 25 citizens celebrating Old People International Day on Oct. 1, in collaboration with the Old People’s Home sector of the Social Services Department in Sharjah.

The visitors enjoyed an iftar meal at the Fawanees AlQasba Tent, catered by Marbella Resort, Sharjah, and followed the festivities participating in the many family activities at Ramadaniat Al-Qasba 2007.

The senior citizens made a tour of the inviting Qanat Al-Qasba premises participating in the host of activities, including the cultural event Zaman Awal, and the spiritual destination Al-Eman Oasis.

“At Qanat Al-Qasba, we have always taken initiatives in hosting and organizing social and humanitarian events,” said Majed Al-Suwaidi, events coordinator at the Qanat Al-Qasba Development Authority.

Special competitions tailored for the senior guests by the Old People’s Home provided a great source of entertainment for the elderly as well as other visitors at Ramadaniat Al-Qasba.
