Majed Al Ghamdi Tops Mobily Saudi Star Second Round

ALKHOBAR, 5 October 2007 — Majed Al Ghamdi trounced the field to rule the two-day 2nd round of Mobily Saudi Star Autocross 2007 at Iskan Alkhobar racetrack earlier this week. The event, organized by Abdullah Bakhshab Est. for Motor Sport Development, drew a large number of car-racing enthusiasts Kingdomwide who pitted skills in a non-stop endurance battle as each tried to score the maximum under the new system of awarding points.

And when the dust settled it was Majed Al-Ghamdi in his car who led the podium winners clocking the best time of 00.57.524 in the Camry challenge stage on the second day. “I struggled to win, but I loved every minute of it and will do it again,” he said Abdul Hadi of his victory.

Mansour Al-Qahtani, widely expected to win, piloted his car around the track in a second best time of 00.59.133. After the technical test on the first day every participant had to make a free tour through the track. Then the drivers had two trials to collect the best time.

In the first group (DS), Fahd Al-Qahtani won clocking 1.04.566 to move to the second stage. In the second group (BS), Musaed Al Khoayter stayed top with 01:00:131.

In the third group (CS), Zeeb Al-Qhatani prevailed with a time of 00:58:745.

In the fourth group (FS), Ahmad Al-Isa won in 01:00:189.

In the fifth group (SS), Abdulaziz Al-Yaesh was there with 00:58:434.

In the sixth group (PA), Mansour Al-Qahtani topped with 00:54:200.

In the last group (PB) it was Majed Al-Ghamdi on top with 00:57:580.

In the last round of Toyota Camry challenge on the second day, the qualified drivers had two trials. Outsmarting his rivals, Majed Al-Ghamdi clinched the championship. It was a thrilling and interesting round where Mansour Al-Qhatani finished second and Musaed Al-Khoayter third.

Bakhashab said he was looking forward to motor sport getting a nod from the Kingdom.

The race went on as intended. This was the second round of Mobily Saudi Star championship 2007, organized by rally veteran Abdullah Bakhashab.

The results were calculated on the times the racers achieved on their own cars. The top drivers of each of the seven categories had to compete again using two Toyota Camries. Majed Al Ghamdi, the flamboyant driver who blazed the tarmac with his stunt-felt driving, won in a Camry.

Mobily is the main sponsor of the event. This sponsorship emphasized the social role of Mobily toward society and the contribution in the development of all sports activities in the Kingdom. Mobily claims to be the first telecommunications company in the Kingdom to sponsor such events. A
