Sports Briefs: Nur Survives Car Accident

JEDDAH, 8 October 2007 — Mohammed Nur of Ittihad club had a car accident on Saturday night while driving in Makkah with his family. Despite the huge damage to his car Nur was rescued with his family and were said to be in good condition. The footballer assured his fans, “Thank God my family and I are all fine.”

Saudi Olympic Team to Miss Eid Holidays

JEDDAH — The Saudi national Olympic team began on Friday their training camp in preparation for a match against Vietnam on Oct. 17 in Dammam at the final Asian qualifiers for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. This means the team will not enjoy the Eid Al-Fitr holidays due to the proximity to the crucial match. Nassir Al-Jouhar is to lead the team instead of Bandar Al-Jiathin under whose captaincy the squad failed to secure more than two points in three games.

Nebusha Open to Ahli Return

JEDDAH — Former Al-Ahli football club coach Serbian Nebusha denied he received any offers from Ahli to coach the team once again. However, he said he is open to the idea of returning to Ahli if the team management so decides. He said he feels sorry for the poor results the team are saddled with and assured he had spent a very good time training them. Meanwhile, Brazilian international Kaio De Silva is set to join Ahli after the Eid Al-Fitr holidays to replace compatriot Rodrigo.

Al-Muntashiri Remains an Ittihadi

JEDDAH — Hamad Al-Muntashiri and Al-Ittihad agreed on a contract renewal for five years. The contract signing was held at a press conference at the weekend. Saud Kariri, Ibrahim Al-Suwaied and Saleh Al-Saqqri were also among the four players whose contracts with Ittihad were renewed.

Egypt’s First Team in Pan Arab Games

JEDDAH — Samir Zahir, president of the Egyptian Football Federation, denied the rumors making the rounds that Egypt would not be fielding their first football team at the 11th Pan Arab Games to be held in Egypt from Nov. 11 to 25. Zahir assured everyone Egypt’s first team would see action in the competition. Saudi Arabia was also initially rumored to not sending their first team prompting the Saudi Football Federation to issue a denial.
