RIYADH, 8 October 2007 — The Finance Team emerged champions at the Mobily Soccer Tournament by defeating the Customer Care Team 2-1 in a thrilling final match in Riyadh yesterday. A total of 28 teams participated in the tournament from the Central, Western and the Eastern regions.
Mobily organized and sponsored the tourney among its staff from various divisions.
The first half of the game was very tough with each team scoring a goal. Sayed Al-Zahrani scored the first goal for the winning team, while Riyad Al-Kheyat netted one for the losing team.
During the second half, Fahd Al-Juwaid scored the second goal for Finance. Customer Care searched in vain for the equalizer, compounding their woes when they failed to convert from the penalty spot. Seyed Al-Sweilem refereed the match.
Khalid Al-Kaf, managing director of Mobily, said in a brief speech that the idea of the tournament is to enable the Mobily staff to bond with one another and cultivate team spirit among the players. Al- Kaf and Faisal Al-Hadi from the General Presidency of Youth Welfare distributed the awards to the players of the winning team and to the outstanding players of the tournament.
The trophy for the Best Player in the tournament was awarded to Marwan Al-Mahdhi from Customer Care, while the Best Goalkeeper trophy went to Mohammed Al-Mahesh from the Sales team. Fahad Ibn Rabah received a trophy for netting the highest number of 10 goals. In addition to the trophies, the players of the winning team received cash prizes.
