AKEA Reschedules Jeddah Forum on Knowledge Economy

JEDDAH, 19 October 2007 — Arabian Knowledge Economy Association (AKEA) has postponed to Jan. 12-13, 2008 the first regional conference on knowledge economy to be held in Jeddah which was earlier set for Oct. 27-28, 2007.

The conference titled “Towards Knowledge Economy “will be organized jointly with the Al-Aghar Group and The Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry under the patronage of Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, governor of Makkah Region.

Abdullah Subyani, president of AKEA, said “though we regret to announce the postponement, we would like to inform that the decision has been taken for the overall success of the event.” More keynote speakers including Amr Mousa, secretary general of the Arab League and Bertie Ahern, prime minister of Ireland, are likely to participate in the conference in January. The association has also decided to include three additional specialized workshops that will take place along with a special forum, involving the youth and their participation in the knowledge economy.

“We thank all the sponsors, speakers and participants for their understanding regarding the change in dates, which was inevitable. We are sure that with their support and commitment will make this event achieve the desired results in the region,” Subyani added.

The conference aims at introducing, promoting and highlighting ways of building a viable and vibrant knowledge-based economy in the region. The conference is expected to attract more than 700-1,000 delegates from the region and around the globe, along with several international speakers and practitioners who will provide various perspectives and share their experiences.
