JEDDAH, 27 October 2007 — Saudis and expatriates wanting to renew their driving licenses will now be able to do so at designated post offices in Jeddah.

The move, which is being spearheaded by Saudi Post to expand its services to customers, will reduce the size of queues at Traffic Department offices. The post offices in Al-Balad, Musadia, Nuzla and Tahlia Street will accept driving license renewal applications from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. starting today. Applicants must come personally and have with them the old license, a medical report and two photographs.

According to a Saudi Post official, the new licenses will be mailed to customers. The service fee is SR25. “Our offices will remain open even after government offices close,” said Osama Altaf, vice president of Saudi Post.

Lt. Col. Saeed Al-Qarni, director of licenses at the Traffic Department in Jeddah, said his office issues around 400 driving licenses on a daily basis.
