SHARJAH, 30 October 2007 — As many as 11 workers were injured after a massive fire broke out at a lubricant company — Sharq Oil Company — in Sharjah’s industrial area yesterday evening.
Eight of the workers are seriously injured as a result of the blaze which broke out around 4.25 p.m. and later spread to a glass and paper factory.
Brig. Saleh Ali Al-Mutawaa, director general of Sharjah police who was on the spot, told reporters that the fire could have triggered by a gas cylinder explosion from the workers living quarters in the premises of the lubricant and oil factory.
Armed forces have also been deployed and were seen assisting the Civil Defense personnel from Sharjah and Ajman. The injured have been admitted to different hospitals in Sharjah and Dubai.
On Sunday morning, a major fire had broken out in the Al Ittihad Metal and Gypsum Factory in the Ajman Industrial Area. There were no injuries or casualties.
