ABHA, 7 November 2007 — The generosity of a Saudi citizen in Asir, who offered to take a pregnant woman to hospital, led to his arrest and being charged with impersonation and harboring an illegal resident.
The man offered to take an eight-month pregnant Yemeni overstayer to hospital when he saw her in pain. At hospital the man lied to staff that the woman was his wife Aisha. However, staff became suspicious when the woman spoke with a foreign accent and provided contradictory personal data. She gave her name as Salam.
Salam, a mother of three, was living illegally in the Kingdom with her husband, also from Yemen. The General Prosecution Authority is now looking into the case.
Abdullah Al-Qarni, spokesman for Asir police, said, “Impersonation cases are looked into by the district police station and then transferred to the General Prosecution Authority. Cases are then transferred to court for trial.”
