AMMAN, 12 November 2007 — Three Jordanians, who were freed from the US Guantanamo detention camp last week, were reunited with their families yesterday after finalizing all legal procedures, the government’s official spokesman Nasser Judeh said. “They are the last Jordanian citizens who have been detained at Guantanamo,” Judeh added.

The freed prisoners — Osama Abu Kabir, Ahmed Suleiman and Ibrahim Zaidan — were handed over to the Jordanian government by the US authorities on Nov. 3.

“Over the past week, the three citizens underwent the necessary medical tests and were found to be in very good health,” Judeh said. “Thanks to Jordan’s efforts, the three Jordanian citizens were released on Nov. 3... (and) sent today (Sunday) to their relatives,” Judeh said.

The United States set up the camp after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks to hold prisoners from Afghanistan and elsewhere as part of its global anti-terror campaign.
