A seminar on a “Unique way of pump controlling solution” was jointly organized by KSB pumps and Schneider Electric in Riyadh last week. About 450 participants, mainly engineers from ministries, consultants and contractors were present at the event, which was aimed to provide updated and latest technology and solution information in the booster pump control system that is useful especially for high rise building applications. KSB Arabia Chairman Mohammed Abunayyan highlighted the strategic partnership between KSB and Schneider Electric and the advantages it provides. KSB Arabia GM Robert Aramouni spoke about the company activities. Georges Barbarin, VP, Schneider Electric made a company presentation. Stephan Schmitt of KSB AG in his pump presentation explained the various types of booster sets KSB Arabia manufactures and their advantages in various applications in general and building services in particular. Wisam Jerjawi, activity manager, Schneider Electric, introduced the new generation of variable speed drive Altivar 61 along with a booster pump card as a best solution to give full control and protection for the booster pump system.

Samsung Electronics, announced that its 500GB SpinPoint T166- HD501LJ hard disk has been awarded “Best Storage product 2007” courtesy of Computer Shopper magazine, the UK’s biggest technology magazine. Samsung’s hard disk was qualified as best choice for the storage of programs, movies, music, photos and documents. “We are very proud to receive this award. Samsung has been always known for its premium quality of internal hard disks, the continued hard work and commitment it has constantly delivered to its customers,” said Raj Samuel, sales & marketing manager, IF Div., Samsung Gulf Electronics. “The award confirms Samsung’s leadership in providing reliable and efficient storage solutions to business users.” The award winning hard disk uses the latest SATA 300 interface, so if the PC doesn’t have a SATA connector on its motherboard then the consumer has to invest in a SATA PCI card. The SpinPoint will still work at the same speeds when plugged into a slower SATA 10 connector, so there’s no need to upgrade if the motherboard already has spare connectors of this type.

KIPCO Asset Management Company (KAMCO) has announced the launch of Al-Jazi Money Market Fund, a specialized Shariah- compliant fund. This targeted investment solution offers mutual fund style benefits of high-liquidity, low risk and competitive yields investors looking for investment opportunities that are regulated on the basis of Islamic principles. Highly flexible, the fund offers weekly liquidity options with initial lockup period of three months. Al-Jazi may invest in Islamic financial money market instruments, either in Kuwaiti dinars or other foreign currencies, issued by local and international financial institutions, banks, investment companies and governments. The fund capital is variable between 5 million to 100 million Kuwaiti dinars and the duration of its tenure is set at 15 years from establishment, with the option to renew for a similar period thereafter. The subscription period for investment applications is open till Dec. 11, according to KAMCO Chairman Masaud Hayat.

In an effort to give a voice to the 125 million people suffering from Psoriasis worldwide, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals launched a regional TV and Radio campaign to support World Psoriasis Day (WPD) and raise awareness on the disease. TV and Radio Stations from across the GCC have invited dermatologists to discuss live on air the topic of psoriasis and the impact it can have on a sufferer’s life. WPD is an annual day specially dedicated to people with psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis. Its aim is to raise the profile of a condition, which needs to be taken more seriously by national and international authorities. The day acts as a focus for people – patients, doctors, nurses and the general public – to give people with psoriasis the attention and consideration they deserve. “Psoriasis can be a debilitating disease and the general public does not know enough about it. Many believe that Psoriasis is a cosmetic condition, but this is not the case and we need to raise more awareness on the disease,” said Dr. Yasir Al-Shaikh, consultant dermatologist, King Faisal Specialty Hospital, Dammam.
