RABIGH, 2 December 2007 — Petro Rabigh, a joint venture between Saudi Aramco and Sumitomo Chemical of Japan, has unveiled its new corporate logo, an abstract red-and-green palm that company executives say expresses the “DNA” of the $10 billion integrated oil refinery and petrochemical complex.

Petro Rabigh, set to begin production in 2008, will combine a low-cost, stable supply of feedstock from Saudi Aramco with the marketing and technical expertise of Sumitomo Chemical, the Japanese chemical company.

“The design of the logo is meant to convey optimism, a sense of possibility,” said Eyad Ajaj, manager, Public Relations and Government Affairs Department, Petro Rabigh. “The atmosphere here is positive, forward-looking, and we wanted the logo to express that, this feeling that Petro Rabigh represents a breath of fresh air.

“There’s a genuine belief here that we are doing good things for Saudi Arabia and for the world,” he said. “We are proud of the work we’re doing.”

The bright, colorful design of the logo, Ajaj added, reflects Petro Rabigh’s role in converting fossil fuels into plastics and other life-enhancing final products, processes that observe strict environmental standards.

“The planet is going green, and we aim to be at the forefront of that trend,” he said.

“We employ some of the most advanced technology in the world, technology that is specifically geared toward protecting the environment.”

The decision to use the image of a palm for the logo was based on the affinity and confidence it inspires in Saudi Arabia.

“The palm is a symbol of prosperity, of natural resources, of food and shelter,” Ajaj said.

“These things represent the work we are doing at Petro Rabigh: providing jobs for the community, improving the national economy and society.”

The traditional imagery of the palm, Ajaj said, is complemented by the contemporary design, which reflects the spirit of innovation at the company, while its colors represent the national flags of Japan and Saudi Arabia.

Ajaj further said the “clean, simple” lines of the logo are an expression of Petro Rabigh’s dedication to the principles of transparency and accountability. “For us, these are not just words but serious responsibilities,” he said.

“Petro Rabigh is committed to doing the best for our country, our community and our employees. We hope that our logo helps us communicate this fact.”
