Sidelights: Bride’s Shoes Stolen on Wedding Day

ASIR, 17 December 2007 — A brief power failure in a local wedding hall here dampened the mood of the party when a thief took advantage of the darkness to steal the bride’s wedding shoes, the daily Okaz reported yesterday. As the bride was trying on her wedding dress, the thief sneaked into her room and made off with her expensive bridal shoes. When word got out of the bride’s dressing room troubles, a guest came forward and offered to lend the barefoot bride her shoes. The bride accepted the offer and the wedding ceremony continued without further incident.

STC Declares Man Dead

RIYADH, 17 December 2007 — Ayed Al-Enesi, a customer of Saudi Telecom Company (STC) for the past 6 years, received a surprise when he was told that STC computers showed he was dead, the Al-Watan daily reported yesterday. Al-Enesi, who went to a STC office to apply for a new telephone line, tried to convince company employees that he was alive by showing them his Civil Identification Card. STC officials told him that it would take some time for the mistake to be corrected.
