JEDDAH, 12 January 2008 — The Saudi Soccer League round 16 takes place today with three matches on tap.
Al-Hilal and Wehda take to the field in a return bout with Hilal hosting in Riyadh. The first leg match played in Makkah on Monday went to Hilal who won by 1-0.
Hilal are looking to add another three points to their tally that would temporarily put them at second place vice Al-Shabab, who will play tomorrow. Hilal are currently in third position with 26 points from 12 matches and with a chance to go all the way to the top with still two more pending matches to clear.
With one pending match, Wehda still have a mathematical chance for major honors in the fifth position of the team standings with 19 points.
Shabab and Ittihad stand to benefit from either a Wehda victory or a draw against Hilal for it will buy them time atop the standings
Taie are at home to Nasr in Hail in the second match. Nasr are still smarting from an embarrassing 4-0 defeat by Ittihad in Jeddah last week. But they are expected to approach the match as a perfect opportunity to secure the game three points and get back in competition. Nasr are in the fourth position with 22 points. Nasr are heavily favored to win against a Taie side that is in danger of being relegated to the first division next season after languishing in 11th rank with 7 points.
The third match in Jeddah, at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium, pits the hosts Al-Ittihad against Al-Hazem. The league-leading Ittihad, with 31 points, should have no trouble dispatching Al-Hazem who are seventh with 19 points.
