RIYADH, 15 January 2008 — Samsung Electronics, a leader in telecommunications, launched an innovative line-up of three premium mobile phones here yesterday.
Introducing a new range of smart phones enhanced with advanced features, Sandeep Saihgal, general manager of hand held mobile phones at Samsung Gulf Electronics, told reporters that the launch of the new range will address the needs of a wide spectrum of consumers including young and old, men and women, businessmen and travelers.
The new phones which were launched simultaneously in the region’s market include G800, a 5mega pixel digital camera with a 3x optical zoom and a xenon flash, i550 GPS navigator, WiFi Symbian business phone and D880; dual SIM card mobile phone dedicated to our multi SIM card users.”

Explaining the features of G800, Saighal said it looks like a streamlined digital camera on one side and a fashionable mobile phone on the other. Elegantly equipped with multimedia features, the G800 is designed for the two handed grip when taking pictures. It is the first 5-mega-pixel camera phone to have an optical zoom, a feature that is common in most digital cameras.
“The G800 offers professional video editing functions so that people can easily cut, paste, and edit their films. Mobile blogging features help users upload their favorite User Created Contents (UCC) site very easily. Supporting High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA), the photos or videos can be sent to others very quickly,” Saighal said.
Samsung i550 has a shiny compact design with a stylish candy bar shape. The device measures at 115x53 and is 13.8 mm thick. The phone is also equipped with a 1200 MA battery, which is significantly more than other batteries.
This GPS navigator phone is based on Symbian OS v9.2. Featuring S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 1, with Samsung i550 users can choose from thousands of applications from the S60 library and have access to all the favorites by using dedicated hot keys.
Samsung D880 is a dual SIM card slider, which has a stylish look featuring a shining front surface and measures at 18.9mm thick. The compact slide up design is easy to carry and use, while the sleek and sophisticated surface adds professional polish to the user’s style.
