JEDDAH — The Abdul Latif Jameel Community Services Programs (ALJ CSP) announced on Monday night that efforts would be made to offer 25,000 new work opportunities for Saudis in 2008. “We have succeeded in providing 42,000 such opportunities until the end of 2007,” Muhammad Abdul Latif Jameel said at the awards ceremony.
“We will support at least 3,500 small projects and work hard until we achieve to offer 50,000 new work opportunities by 2011,” he said, adding that various programs have been successful due to its dedicated 300-member team. “Nothing can work without love. So, we promise you, we will continue to go along this path because we love you,” he said and presented awards to various individuals and organizations including the media for their support.
Jameel said that ALJ’s programs included equipping every potential Saudi worker with adequate training. “So, we provide training so that he is able to accept the offer employment,” he said. As many as 4,684 individuals have benefited from the training program and are gainfully employed.
ALJ CSP has offered 303 cars to those who wanted to own and operate taxis, and distributed 77 pickups to individual transporters who are now running their own business.
Under the ALJ CSP programs, 13,111 families have been made productive. Women interested in tailoring have been offered sewing machines. Its Nafisa Shams Academy for arts and crafts has produced 576 graduates. It has also funded 1,092 small projects. ALJ Company alone has provided 1,152 job opportunities. Since its establishment in mid-2003, the ALJ Community Services Programs has helped creating or offering a total of 22,432 job opportunities.
