JEDDAH — The Jeddah Youth Baseball League held its opening day ceremony at Saudia City Housing Compound on Thursday. The tournament attracted 12 teams represented by 165 players.
The players are of different nationalities including American, Saudi, Lebanese, Egyptian, Korean, Pakistani, Indian, and Indonesian.
The JYBL was started in Jeddah over 15 years ago. The opening day activities included an enthusiastic speech by the JYBL President Majadi Abdullah on sportsmanship and family participation, a lively and colorful players parade, team photoshoot, and a barbecue. Special acknowledgement and appreciation was given to the JYBL corporate sponsors, which included Mc Donald’s and Exxon Mobile, for their commitment to and support of youth activities in Jeddah. The JYBL is answering the call to combat diabetes, obesity, too much play station, and inactivity in Jeddah. The children’s parents are volunteers helping to organize, umpire and coach the games. The community is welcome to attend the games on Thursdays and Fridays during the season.
