RIYADH — An international symposium on heart diseases started here yesterday noting that the illness is steadily increasing in the Kingdom. The four-day conference was inaugurated by Prince Sultan Al-Kabeer, honorary president of Saudi Heart Association (SHA), which is sponsoring the event along with the King Abdulaziz Medical City.
More than 2,000 local and international delegates, including 100 speakers, will participate in various sessions of the conference.
Describing coronary heart disease as the No. 1 killer in the Kingdom, SHA President Mohammed Arafah stressed that people should give up smoking, learn to regulate cholesterol and glucose levels, engage in regular physical exercises and avoid fatty foods.
The symposium will include three major events, such as the 19th Scientific Session of the SHA, International Symposium of King Abdulaziz Cardiac Center in Riyadh and the Seventh Annual Meeting of the Pan Arab Congenital Heart Disease Association.
Dr. Hani Najim, chairman of the conference, said the conference provides an ideal platform for delegates to exchange one another’s experience.
An exhibition attended by a number of pharmaceutical companies showcased their products and services to the participants of the symposium.
