JEDDAH, 3 March 2008 — Image building of Sri Lanka in the comity of nations, formalizing a network of the island’s professionals and promote relations with Saudi Arabia through various social, cultural and professional events are among the objectives of the Network of Sri Lankan Professionals, which held the second meeting of its pro tem committee here over the weekend.
The network will have coordinators in various regions and major cities of the Kingdom, said Sri Lankan Consul General Abdul Latif Mohamed Lafeer whose idea of establishing the network has been welcomed by the community. The idea for the network was mooted during the recent visit of Sri Lankan Deputy Foreign Minister Hussain Baila to inaugurate the 60th anniversary of the country’s independence.
The network’s executive board includes Farweez Shahabdeen and Chandara Ranjan as vice presidents and Chandrakumaran Sinnappah as secretary general. Its other officials are Rohan Burah, assistant secretary general; Shervin Fernando, treasurer; Mohamed Mashoodh, associate treasurer; Rameez Ziard, auditor; Shahul Hameed Saleh, project manager; H.M. Rafeek, protocol manager; Mohamed Lareef Lafir, web manager, Valli Thankarajah, publicity manager; and Ismail Mahroof, membership manager. Its members include Chintaka Bandara, Lalith Wijendra, Subbiah Maheson and Roshan Sardeen.
