We all have an inner voice that talks to us. Sometimes it is a good friend but at other times it does not seem to have our best interests at heart.

It happens when you are tempted to eat something you don’t need. It can say, “Just have one chocolate — it won’t hurt. Just have one chocolate and you will feel so much better.” Then it says, “Hey, have another — just one more won’t hurt.” And so it goes on until all of the chocolates are gone and you feel cross with yourself.

At times like these it often helps to have a personal mantra. It will help you to gain self-control. You don’t have to say it out loud or share your personal mantra with anyone else. When offered a cake that you know you really don’t need, say to yourself — “Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels”. Other mantras that may work for you could include, “I only eat healthy food”, or “I only eat when I’m hungry”.

My mother always used to say, “A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips”.

Remember – the thought of having a tasty treat is often better than actually having one! So just enjoy watching everyone else!

Weight Watch:

Avoid the Trigger Foods

Are there foods you know you can’t resist? Since you know that just the smell of these foods will make your mouth water, steer clear of these tempting triggers. For example, if you know that you absolutely cannot bake chocolate chip cookies without eating most of the batch while they’re still warm, don’t bake them at home anymore. Instead, treat yourself to an occasional fresh-baked cookie from a bakery or coffee shop. By making a point of not totally denying yourself some of your favorite foods, you’re more apt to remain in control and not let these foods trigger an eating binge you’ll soon regret.
