DUBAI, 20 March 2008 — A two-year-old boy is fighting for life after his mother stabbed him and his four-year-old sister, who died immediately from the wounds. After attempting to kill her children, the woman tried to commit suicide by stabbing herself.
According to police sources, the woman had been suffering from psychological problems for the past eight years. The incident occurred in the family’s apartment in the Baraha area in Dubai late in the afternoon on Tuesday.
Police said the woman’s husband had told them that he had quarreled with his wife a day before the incident. “He did not expect his wife to react in such a violent manner and went to work the next day thinking that everything was OK,” said the source.
The family hails from the Indian state of Kerala and moved to the UAE six months ago after the father found a job as a computer engineer at a local company. A police source said they had not interrogated the woman as she was still in critical condition after suffering stabs in the abdomen and chest.
