JEDDAH, 30 March 2008 — The Director of ELS Language Centers, Abdul Haque Baker, yesterday opened the first career fest organized by the Center for Information & Guidance India (CIGI) at Dauhat Al-Uloom International School in Jeddah.
Nearly 1,000 students and parents attended the festival, which saw 25 career counseling sessions and participation of major local institutions such as Batterjee College for Medical Science and Technology, IGNOU and College of Business Administration.
"The event was a big success as a large number of people turned up to make use of available expertise and facilities," said K. Mohammed Mustafa, chief coordinator.
Experts gave counseling on six vital streams: medicine, engineering, civil service, information technology, finance and media/journalism.
CIGI, a non-profit organization based in the south Indian city of Calicut, has been instrumental in creating awareness among parents, especially Muslims, about the importance of career guidance.
CIGI has now nine chapters in the Gulf including three in Saudi Arabia. It conducts an annual camp named Expa Scan for NRI students in Kerala including educational, career guidance, personality development and entertainment programs. A similar camp is also held for children of expatriates studying in Kerala.
