JEDDAH, 2 April 2008 — A 14-member Greek trade mission is arriving here tomorrow. Headed by Arab Greek Chamber of Industry and Development Secretary General Mohamed Al-Khazmi, the mission will represent a wide range of goods and services, Greek Consul General Dr. Dimitrios Zavoritis told Arab News yesterday.
The mission members represent engineering, construction, glassware, tiles, audiovisual, food, travel and tour, plastics, paper recycling and pharmaceutical and a host of other manufacturing and service industries.
They will have a meeting at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) followed by a ‘B-2-B’ meeting with individual Saudi businessmen on Sunday. Later, the mission will visit Riyadh and Dammam before returning home on April 10.
Dr. Zavoritis, who last week hosted a reception to celebrate his country’s National Day, said the mission was visiting in the context of the tremendous opportunity available in the Kingdom, especially its planned development of six new cities including King Abdullah Economic City. “The concept of new economic cities augurs well for us as we can look forward to our businessmen exploring the prospects for furthering our bilateral cooperation,” he said.
“In fact the conventional framework between the two countries constitutes a broad basis for a full-fledged economic cooperation,” Dr. Zavoritis said.
“It just needs all of its components to be activated so both parties get maximum benefits,” he added.
According to him, the bilateral agreement for economic cooperation provides for a “long awaited” Greek-Saudi inter-ministerial meeting, which is expected to take place this year. Texts of twin agreements for mutual protection of investments and avoidance of double taxation have been initialed and await the final signature.
