ISLAMABAD, 5 April 2008 — Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has said that the present government will restore the constitution, strengthen all institutions, ensure provincial autonomy and fulfill the expectations of people with regard to independence of judiciary and freedom of the media.

In a television message on the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Gilani said his government would also carry forward the mission of upholding the supremacy of Parliament.

The prime minister said Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was the name of an ideology, a mission and a movement. It was Bhutto who gave the country the 1973 constitution and made Pakistan a nuclear power. “Today it is imperative upon us to fulfill his mission. It is our national obligation to protect the constitution which Zulfikar Ali Bhutto gave us as a sacred document,” Gilani said.
