Boards of Saudi Sports Federations Formed

JEDDAH, 6 April 2008 — Prince Sultan ibn Fahd, head of the Youth Welfare Presidency, yesterday announced the formation of the boards of several Saudi sports federations, including elected and appointed members.

“We are happy to announce the reshuffled boards of directors of different sports federations that are replete with qualified national cadre,” Prince Sultan told a press conference in Riyadh.

He said half of the new board members were elected and thanked the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs, the Shoura Council and Saudi universities for supporting the election process.

“The election was held in six phases,” the prince said, adding that the voting was supervised by experts. “We’re not just satisfied with the success of the election process but look forward to achieving more in the world of sports,” the prince added.

Prince Sultan said the elections, which were held for the first time in the Kingdom, would play a positive role in boosting sports activities in the country. The board of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation will be chaired by Prince Sultan and its members include Prince Nawaf ibn Faisal, Dr. Saleh Nasser, Abdullah Al-Athel, Dr. Hafiz Al-Mudlaj, Muhammad Al-Nuwaisser, Ahmed Al-Harbi, Fahd Al-Musaibeeh, Faisal Al-Abdul Hadi, Nasser Al-Shammari, Ahmed Al-Khamees, Hamad Al-Shammari, Muhammad Al-Sarah, Tarek Kayyal, Ibrahim Al-Rabdi, Ali Al-Ali and Musleh Al-Muslim.

Prince Nawaf ibn Faisal is the chairman of the Saudi Arabian Equestrian Federation’s board while Prince Nawaf ibn Muhammad is the chairman of Saudi Arabian Track & Field Federation. The Saudi Arabian Basketball Federation’s board will be chaired by Prince Talal ibn Badr ibn Saud while the volleyball federation would be headed by Muhammad Mufti. Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Anqari is the chairman of the Saudi Arabian Tennis Federation while the federation for judo and taekwondo will be chaired by Dr. Ahmed Al-Mufreh.
