JEDDAH, 6 May 2008 — A three-day employment campaign for the deaf and blind concluded yesterday at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce & Industry (JCCI).
A host of jobs were on offer for men and women with special needs. Men with bachelor’s degree will be considered for jobs in media and translation, while those with high school certificates can work in marketing and public relations and those with intermediate certificates will be able to work as data entry representative and in spare parts shops.
Women with special needs will be able to work as graphic designer, dressmaker, beauty salon employee and data entry official.
This was the first campaign of its kind to train people with special needs for employment.
The event was the result of a joint effort by Human Recourses Development Fund, Ebsar and Jeddah Club for the Deaf.
According to Labor Minister Ghazi Al-Gosaibi, employing one Saudi with special needs was equal to employing four Saudis.
The prospective employees will be given 25 percent theoretical training and the remaining 75 percent will be on-job training at the organization they choose to work.
Monthly allowance during the training period has been set at SR1,500 — 75 percent of which is being offered by the fund and the rest by the organization.
The fund will also bear 50 percent of the first year’s salaries.
