Local Schools Show Greater Interest in British Curriculum

RIYADH, 7 May 2008 — There is a growing interest among Saudi schools to follow the Cambridge International Examinations’ (CIE) international curriculum, said William Bickerdike, regional director of the CIE, during a presentation in Riyadh attended by the principals of several internationals schools.

“Students who follow the international curriculum could easily gain access to reputable universities and colleges since IGCSE and Advanced Level examinations conducted by the CIE are recognized the world over,” said Bickerdike during the event, which was sponsored by the British Council.

Bickerdike said some 80 international schools in the Kingdom prepare their students for IGCSE and Advanced Level examinations. Some 30,000 students sit UK examinations, half of them IGCSE and Advanced Level, he added.
