TAIF, 9 May 2008 — A conflict between a Saudi man from Taif and his expatriate wife ended recently with the latter giving an undertaking that she would not demand to see her son throughout her life if the man agreed to divorce her and pay SR50,000 in compensation, press reports said yesterday.
The two sides announced their agreement in front of a court in Taif.
The dramatic development came after the husband raised doubts about his pregnant wife’s fidelity. She demanded a divorce and full custody of the child but he refused both.
The woman separated from her husband when she was nine-months pregnant. After she gave birth, the woman did not allow the man to see the child. The woman told her husband that if the child was illegitimate as he had claimed, he had no right to see him.
This prompted the man to approach the court, which ruled in his favor. However, every time the man tried to see his son, the wife would show him two children. He then went back to the court and lodged a fresh complaint, this time against his wife and her brothers demanding a DNA test to identify his child.
They then reached an agreement that he would get his real son if he granted her a divorce and SR50,000 in compensation. She also vowed to never ask to see the son.
The man parted ways with her after accepting the woman’s word that the child is his son without carrying out a DNA test.
