JEDDAH, 17 May 2008 — Indian Cultural Congress (ICC), with branches all over the Kingdom, will celebrate its silver jubilee with a variety of programs including seminars, debates, study tours, sports and cultural events, said K.M. Sharief Kunhu, its Jeddah chapter president.

KPCC General Secretary M.I. Shanawas will open the yearlong festivities during a ceremony at Lucky Darbar Auditorium in Sharafiya today. Office bearers of ICC’s Saudi national committee will take part in the event, which will be presided over by Kunhu. “We’ll organize a variety of programs with the participation of Congress leaders from Kerala and other parts of India as well as prominent Indian cultural personalities and artists,” Kunhu told Arab News. “We’ll also hold a number of educational programs.”

ICC also intends to provide financial assistance to 14 poor expatriate workers from different districts of Kerala, Kunhu said, adding that the beneficiaries would be picked by Congress workers. Medical camps will also be held in different parts of Jeddah as part of the jubilee.

The organization, an offshoot of the ruling Indian National Congress party in New Delhi, intends to focus more on students and youth by holding special programs for them. “We’ll organize open-house programs to enlighten Indians on rules and regulations related to iqama, passport, license, baggage allowance, customs and immigration.”

ICC will honor its outstanding workers, especially those who have made outstanding contributions toward educational and humanitarian activities.
