BISHA, 19 May 2008 — A Saudi man was surprised to learn that he had successfully applied for a SR300,000 loan when he was five months old, at least according to a background check he obtained in order to qualify for a government job. According to a report in the daily Okaz yesterday, the background check on the man’s history not only indicated that he obtained the loan when he was a tot but also that he has been making timely payments on the debt. Despite the good credit record, the man decided to rectify the situation.
Groom Gets Cold Feet, Beating From Father
DAMMAM, 19 May 2008 — A man beat his son during a wedding when the son, the groom, decided to announce to all the guests that he would not marry his cousin. According to yesterday’s edition of the daily Al-Madinah, the father of the groom had pressured his son into marrying his first cousin because the woman had a good government job. The groom decided to go along with his father’s plans until the day of the wedding. The groom then changed his mind and said as much to a hall full of wedding guests. The father proceeded to beat his son until guests intervened.
