PUNE, 29 May 2008 — Around 600 Muslim scholars from all over Maharashtra condemned terrorism and suicide attacks at a one-day anti-terrorism seminar held here yesterday. They said there is no place for terrorism in Islam.
In a resolution adopted at the seminar, the participants said real culprits behind such acts should be brought to justice and innocent people should not be harassed on the pretext of investigation. The resolution also asked Muslim scholars and community members to hold such seminars and spread the message of peace.
Speaking at the seminar organized by Maharashtra Rabta Maarise Dinia, Pune chapter, Maulana Mohammed Abdulla Mughaisi from Meerut, who is also the president of the All India Milli Council, said, “Islam and terrorism are poles apart. Islam does not support terrorist acts and there is no place for anti-social activities in religion. Those who indulge in such activities do not follow the teachings of the Holy Qur’an.”
Mughaisi advised youths to get education and contribute to the progress of the country. He said the Muslim community should not be blamed or made to suffer because of insane act of a few Muslims. “Terrorists have no religion and they do not belong to any community,” Mughaisi said.
Speakers at the seminar emphasized that madrasas educated youths but did not brainwash them to carry out terrorist acts. They suggested that people who indulge in terrorist acts should be ostracized from the community.
Maulana Amanulla Khan asked the community members to keep an eye on strangers.
A blind scholar, Dilshad Zakmi, said Muslims are as much Indians as anyone else. The seminar concluded with a prayer for peace in Maharashtra and the entire country. Scholars from Nanded, Aurangabad, Akola, Malegaon, Dhulia, Amravati, Nagpur and even from Bangalore and Delhi attended the seminar.
