when police announce news of a person who has stabbed a close relative — such as a grandparent harming a grandchild or an offspring harming a parent — then one first assumes that the person in question is mentally ill. This is then proven to be true once investigations are completed.

At work, we are often forced to deal with people who suffer from mental problems and whose behavior is unpredictable. Husbands and wives are sometimes forced to live with mentally ill partners who often cause them trouble.

The families of mentally ill people are aware of their problems. However, they often do not mention them, as they fear what people may say. They sometimes feel that the best cure to such problems is to secretly get rid of them by marrying them off so that the person becomes someone else’s problem. However, when it transpires that the person who got married had an existing mental problem, then everyone points fingers at each other to shake off responsibility.

I do not consider those who are mentally ill blameworthy. I also think they have the right to medical help before things become worse for them. We should integrate them into society by focusing on them and helping them. The families of such people should play a positive role and admit that their relative is mentally ill and in need of help. The government should also play a positive role by creating a charitable organization to help them and give them the care they are in need of. We need to educate society about this problem.

The cost of medication for the mentally ill is expensive. However, we need to help them to ensure they continue receiving medical aid, and so we stop hearing and reading about crimes committed by such people. This does not mean all mentally ill people are prone to commit crimes. However, we need to ease their pain and suffering, and help them deal with their problems.
