JEDDAH: A Saudi bride has filed a lawsuit against her fiancé for emotional trauma she suffered after he got cold feet on the day of their wedding, Okaz daily reported. When the groom didn’t turn up on time, guests were told to wait. The bride tried to contact him but the groom had turned his mobile phone off. He finally showed up after everyone had gone home and said that he suffers from unspecified mental problems that make him act irrationally. The bride didn’t buy his story and made the rational decision of suing him and calling off their engagement.

Girl denied passport due to traffic violations

AL-AHSA: The Passport Department in Al-Ahsa, in the Eastern Province, refused to issue a passport to a 15-year-old girl. The reason? She had several unpaid traffic violations in Khamis Mushayt (southern Saudi Arabia), Okaz daily reported. Salman Al-Ali, the girl’s father, said he asked officials at the Passport Department how his daughter could have committed the traffic violations when women are not allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia. Officials told him to file a complaint. Al-Ali, however, has different plans; he has consulted a lawyer and is in the process of suing the Khamis Mushayt Traffic Department.
