MAKKAH: Members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice arrested a jilted suitor in Makkah who had embarked on a vicious program to blackmail a Saudi girl.

The man, who is of an Arab nationality, was incensed after the girl’s family turned down his marriage proposal and began harassing her.

The girl’s family told Arab News that the man would ring and swear at her, and threaten to follow her to school.

He also threatened to throw acid on her if she did not sleep with him and would ask her to let him into the family home when her parents were out.

Scared by the man’s advances and threats, the family filed a complaint with the commission’s office in Al-Mansour district of the city. Commission members asked the girl to arrange a meeting with the man in Al-Hafayer district.

The man was then arrested while attempting to drive off with the girl inside the car.

Following his arrest, commission members handed him to police for further questioning.

Meanwhile, Makkah police recently found a bag full of over 500 poisonous snakes and another bag full of passports in Al-Sharaie residential district.

Police say there would have been a huge problem had the snakes escaped. Police moved the bag from the location and are currently investigating how the snakes got there.
