Hotel to open Filipino food festival today

JEDDAH: To segue the Philippine Independence Day celebrations Trident Hotel hosts a two-day Filipino food festival starting today.

Consul General Ezzedin H. Tago of the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah has been invited to cut the ribbon to mark the opening of the event at 7:30 p.m.

According to Elias Pasha, business development manager at Trident, the foodfest is being held in cooperation with the World-class Filipino Chefs in Jeddah. He said Trident, part of the Oberoi chain of hotels, has been hosting this food festival the past four years as part of their “service to the Filipino community.”

Qatar Airways through Western Province Area Manager Ahmed M. Al-Idrissi is the main festival sponsor. Titan watches, Giordano Fashion, Al-Nova water and Al-Wattania Poultry are the other sponsors.

There will be a variety of Filipino favorites on each day. The menu includes, for appetizers manggang hilaw with bagoong, ensaladang talong with sibuyas, kamatis at itlog na maalat, among others, halaan soup, mixed vegetable soup and for main course choices of kare-kare with bagoong, pinakbet, ginataang langka na may alimasag, kalderetang kambing and mixed grilled seafoods. Also, fresh fruits specially flown in from the Philippines will be on offer.

Pasha said the Filipino food festival has always been a success so that Trident, located in dowtown Balad, is looking at extending its duration to seven days in future.

Mohammad Bayoumi, recipient of Presidential Banaag award and a good friend of the Filipino community, is to attend the opening night today along with community leaders and their groups.
