Dr. B.C. Roy Award for Kerala doctor

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Dr. K. Sasidharan, chief urology consultant and faculty member at the city-based Kerala Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), has bagged the Dr. B.C. Roy National Award, considered the highest honor in medicine in India. He received the award from President Pratibha Patil along with other eminent doctors at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi early this month. A past president of the Urological Society of India and one of the top pediatric urologists in the country, Dr. Sasidharan is among the very few clinicians from Kerala to get the prestigious award. He is also the son-in-law of former Kerala Chief Minister C. Achutha Menon. Dr. Sasidharan has varied surgical interests such as uro-oncology and reconstructive urology and he is reckoned as one of India’s top pediatric urologists. Currently engaged in setting up urology departments in new hospitals, Dr. Sasidharan is also a visiting professor at the Nephrology-Urology Trust, Bangalore, and Sri Satya Sai Institute of Medical Sciences, Puttaparti.
