JEDDAH: A young Saudi in his 30s reportedly murdered a 23-year-old woman in a furnished apartment in Sharafiya district and then attempted suicide, local newspapers reported yesterday.
The unidentified man was rushed to a private hospital with a gunshot wound to his head. His condition is critical.
The crime was discovered when a young woman, identified later as a relative of the dead woman, started screaming frantically at the balcony of the apartment. Neighbors, who thought she was yelling to be rescued, informed Civil Defense who came in to find another young woman lying dead in the apartment and a man on the bed soaked in blood. The Civil Defense responders called police who rushed to the crime scene.
Police said the murdered girl stayed with her family in a rented apartment in the building for months. The suspected murderer rented an apartment a day before the crime, which took place at around 2 p.m. on Monday.
There are reports that an argument took place before the man shot the woman and then turned the gun on himself.
