JEDDAH: A 34-year-old Saudi man died in hospital on Saturday, six days after killing a 24-year-old Saudi woman and then shooting himself at a furnished apartment in Al-Mushrifa district of Jeddah.
The man was previously declared brain dead at King Fahd Hospital where he was taken by Civil Defense rescuers, Al-Madinah newspaper reported.
According to police sources, the man — who was supposed to marry in Taif last Thursday — killed the woman with whom he had a six-year relationship.
Following the shooting, the man’s father and brothers came to police saying he was previously suffering from breathing difficulties and other health problems.
Investigations revealed that the man had rented an apartment in the same building where the dead woman lived with a female relative. The two women visited the man at his apartment last Sunday. During the course of a conversation the man shot the woman and then himself. The other woman ran to a window and cried for help. People who were below initially thought there was a fire and so informed the Civil Defense.
An employee at the building told a local newspaper that the man checked into the apartment a day before the shooting. He added that the man was “very kind” and that he did not notice anything strange until the shooting.
Misfar Al-Joaid, spokesman for Jeddah police, said that the woman who witnessed the incident was being questioned.
