ICD donates school bags in Lebanon

TRIPOLI, Lebanon: Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector, (ICD), an affiliate of the Islamic Development Bank, gave away 700 free school bags — including essential schools supplies — to the children of needy families and orphans in cooperation with Al-Irshad Charitable Society, Tripoli, Lebanon.

Mr. Khaled Al-Aboodi, CEO & General Manager of ICD, said the charitable exercise was carried over a period of three days.

Al-Aboodi said the ICD Solidarity Fund Committee received a request for assistance from Al-Irshad Charitable Society. The society is located and registered in Tripoli, Lebanon, since 1979 and operates with the support of various charities and donations to support needy children and orphans. The society also helps in providing education to the needy.

This initiative came as part of ICD’s Solidarity Fund strategy to serve needy communities within IDB member countries by providing assistance in different fields and in various ways, Al-Aboodi added The volunteer work was headed by Hussein Bahij, a senior official of ICD, who met needy families’ students and presented them with the bags.

He also distributed more than 275 bags to the poor and needy students of Al-Noor School at the Al-Mina district in Tripoli.

The ICD categorized the schools bags according to educational grade and gender such as 100 bags for kindergarten, 400 bags for elementary, 100 bags for middle level and 100 bags for intermediate level. On their part, the heads of Al-Irshad Charitable Society expressed appreciation for ICD’s support for their projects and activities. They also lauded ICD’s commitment to social responsibilities in general.

They also praised the positive impact of this initiative on the poor families’ students and orphans.
