JEDDAH: A bus driver driving erratically yesterday morning down Jeddah’s Al-Haramain Road slammed head-on into a white Toyota Corolla, killing all three passengers in that vehicle instantly.

A police source identified the accident victims as a man and two women of unknown ages, all Saudis.

The police source, who did not want to be named, would not confirm if the bus was privately owned or if it belonged to a company.

The Filipino bus driver and his two passengers were injured and taken to a nearby hospital.

Police suspect that the driver was under the influence of an illicit substance. The accident, which took place near Jeddah’s airport, caused a massive traffic jam.

The Filipino was reportedly driving at a fast clip in the opposite lane and struck several vehicles before slamming into the Corolla.

The police source denied reports that appeared on several online Arabic information portals that the accident took place after a chase or that shots had been fired.

The official spokesman of the Traffic Department was unavailable despite repeated attempts to contact him.
