JEDDAH: Four Pakistani workers died yesterday when a fuel tank of an old aircraft exploded at Taif airport, a press statement released by the General Authority for Civil Aviation (GACA) said.

"The right fuel tank of an old Tristar aircraft caught fire and exploded killing four Pakistani workers and injuring several others. They were all working for Regency Projects Company and were contracted to dismantle old planes at Taif airport," the Saudi Press Agency quoted GACA.

Those injured were taken to hospital after the fire was extinguished, the statement added. Air traffic in Taif was not affected by the accident and investigations are under way to ascertain how the tragedy occurred, the statement added.

The incident happened around 4:15 p.m. Regency Projects Co. is a British company involved in the purchase, operation and sale of mainly overage vessels but most recently diversified into aviation and oil refinery management.
