MADINAH: Two people were burned to death in a car when it caught fire on the Madinah-Makkah highway at the Kilo 9 signal early yesterday morning.
A police source said the ill-fated car rammed into the side of a tanker truck carrying fuel before it caught fire.
Though firefighters and rescuers reached the scene of the accident shortly after the crash, they could not save the passengers in the car.
“The impact of the crash made the car hang on to the tanker and the vehicles were separated after the fire was put out,” the source said. The bodies of the man and woman found inside the car could not be identified till the filing of this report.
Police are questioning the Asian truck driver, who was not injured in the accident.
In another development, municipal workers yesterday found the body of a newborn baby in a garbage bin on the Yanbu Road. The unclaimed body was taken to hospital and police are investigating.
