JEDDAH: Instances of Ramadan blues are few and far between. But the heat of the summer month contributed to two Saudis taking leave of their senses briefly and trigger needless scares. In Abha a 40-year-old Saudi horrified worshippers at Al-Saihani Mosque on Thursday when he held the taraweeh prayer hostage by brandishing a gun at the faithful gathered in the mosque. One witness told Al-Watan Arabic daily that he discontinued the prayer when he saw the man waving the gun about. Col. Abdullah Al-Qarani, spokesman of Asir Police, confirmed the arrest of the man who threw men, women and children at the mosque into a tizz with his action. Then in Hail, a young Saudi man, who was detained for a traffic violation, set fire to the beds at the detention center on a whim, Al-Jazirah Arabic daily reported yesterday. Civil Defense fire fighters quickly quelled the fire. There’s no news on what action is being taken on these two Saudis.
