MUMBAI: In a surprise twist to the Delhi serial bomb blast case, Muslim clerics and the family members of alleged mastermind mind of the blasts, Abdul Subhan Qureshi alias Tauqeer, yesterday came out in his defense and said that Tauqeer was innocent and that the police investigations were moving in the wrong direction.
The clerics and the family of Tauqeer condemned the last Wednesday blasts in Delhi said that those carrying out such inhuman and dastardly acts cannot be Muslims in the true sense and by any means. Lawyers defending Tauqeer urged the media not to tarnish the image of Tauqeer unless and until he is proved guilty.
Zubeda Qureshi, the mother of Tauqeer, came out strongly in defense of her son and said that her son was innocent and asked Tauqeer to come out of hiding into the open and face the trial boldly without any fear. “Innocent people have nothing to fear, except to fear Allah. If my son has committed no crime, he has nothing to fear and courageously face any trial and prove his innocence,” she said.
Coming harshly on the media, Zubeda said “The media are unnecessarily maligning my son. I can say confidently that my son is in no way involved in Delhi or any other blasts. We hail from a very highly respectable family and we have ingrained good character in our children. They cannot ever think or do such dreaded inhuman acts,” she said.
Quoting passages from the Holy Qur’an and the Hadiths, the family members of Tauqeer stated that it was the duty of every Muslim to be patriotic as preached by the blessed Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and also cited other examples wherein Muslims were suspected to be culprits, but eventually it didn’t turn out to be the case.
